The successful candidate will work on topics broadly related to the rotation of cool stars, stellar activity, and exoplanets in the context of their host stars. She or he will have access to new data taken at optical and X-ray wavelengths. Applications from candidates coming from a theoretical/modelling background are also welcome. The successful candidate will receive mentoring and networking options that include advising summer students, traveling to conferences and opportunities for collaboration with other CfA scientists.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop an independent research program during ca. 50% of their time. The CfA provides access to several ground-based telescopes (http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/facilities/Ground-Based-Telescopes) and a high-performance computing cluster. CfA postdoctoral researchers are also eligible to apply for independent funding from US funding agencies as Principal Investigators.
Applicants must have a PhD in astronomy or a related field at the start of the position. The preferred start time for the position is in early 2015, but later start dates can be negotiated. Funding is available for 2 years, and an extension of the postdoctoral position can be negotiated if additional funds become available.

1. A cover letter explaining their interest and qualifications for the position, together with the preferred start date (1 page),
2. A brief statement of previous research and future plans (2 pages),
3. A CV including a publication list and the names of three references.
Applications received by November 30, 2014 will receive full consideration, but applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. Informal inquiries about the position can be directed to Katja Poppenhaeger at the above mentioned email address.
Information about benefits:
The postdoctoral stipend includes health care coverage for the successful candidate and, if applicable, their family (spouse and children). A dental plan is optionally available and requires a small monthly contribution (ca. 15$) to be paid by the postdoctoral researcher.
