IAC POSTDOCTORAL CONTRACT: AMS 2016 | Closing date: 2017-01-15 Contact: Secretariat of the Research Division |
The IAC (Tenerife) invites applications for ONE postdoctoral contract to work on topics within the project ?Participation of IAC in the AMS experiment? (ESP2015-71662-C2-2-P), led by Prof. Ramón García López and Dr. Mónica Vázquez Acosta, and with the research line of the Severo Ochoa programme ?Cosmology and Astroparticles? (SEV-2015-0548), led by Dr. J A Rubiño Martín.
| ▸ more | Research topics at the IAC include most areas of astrophysics: solar physics, planetary systems, stellar and interstellar physics, galactic formation and evolution, and cosmology and astroparticles. These research lines are supported by an ambitious instrumentation program. The IAC has been selected as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Spanish Government in 2015, a prestigious recognition awarded for the second time to the IAC as a leading research institute in Spain. Duties: The selected candidate will pursue research related to the field of Astroparticles, and will carry out research on the following topics:
? Participation in the analysis of data obtained with the AMS-02 Experiment. The successful candidate will collaborate in the measurement of the light to intermediate charge nuclear component of cosmic rays.
? Participation in the detector operations in the AMS Payload Operation Control Center located in CERN (Geneva). Frequent travel to CERN during the contract period is foreseen.
Highly valued: Preference will be given to researchers with a strong track record in the field of
very high-energy astrophysics.
Position requirements: The candidates should have a good publication record and
leading original research experience.
Qualification requirements: To be eligible for admission, applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree in Astroparticle Physics, Astrophysics or Particle Physics, within the application deadline (January 15, 2017). A copy of your degree or corresponding stamped certificate (issued on behalf of the University where you have obtained the degree), must be included. If the applicant has not completed the Ph.D. degree within the application deadline, will not be considered.
Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 33,215 Euros, subject to up to 20% tax and Social Security deductions (depending on the personal situation of the candidate). Medical insurance under the Spanish National Health Service will be provided.
Duration: The appointment will be for a period of two years. The starting date is expected to be in March 1, 2017
Relocation allowance: This call includes a relocation allowance only for the selected candidate comprising: the cost of your flight ticket (booked and issued by the IAC), your stay for up to two weeks (organised by the IAC) and per diem rate up to two weeks. The maximum IAC will reimburse is 2,000 Euros.

Late applications or those which do not include the mandatory application form (Annex I), will not be considered for admission. Incomplete applications will have a period of five (5) days, starting from the day after publication of the provisional list of accepted and excluded candidates, to provide missing documentation.
