The European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO) is the foremost intergovernmental astronomy organisation in Europe and the world"s most productive ground-based astronomical observatory. We are looking for a Software Engineer - Verification and Testing to join our Software Engineering & Quality group in the Science Operations Software Department. | | ▸ more | What we offer:

What we expect from you:
Behavioural:

* Curiosity and eagerness to learn: You are keen to learn new things and understand our complex operational environments as well as scientific applications.
Technical:
* Experience in software testing: You have experience in testing software at all levels, from unit testing of individual classes to verification and regressions testing of final applications. Experience in test automation and GUI testing is essential.
* Coding skills: You are a proficient Java developer and have experience in Python, JavaScript or other scripting languages.
* Maintenance of test environments: You know how to set up Linux machines, configure web servers, and you have a sound understanding of the Bash shell. Knowledge of SQL databases is a definite advantage. And you want to get better at it!

Qualifications:
University degree in Computer Science, or equivalent.
Language Skills:
A very good command of the English language - oral, reading and writing - is essential.
Reports to:
Head of the Software Engineering & Quality Group in the Science Operations Department (Directorate of Engineering).
Remuneration and Contract:
We offer an attractive remuneration package including a competitive salary (tax free), comprehensive pension scheme and medical, educational and other social benefits, as well as financial help in relocating your family and the possibility to place your child/children in day care.
The contract is for a fixed term duration of three years, and is subject to successful completion of the probation period. There is a possibility of extension(s) subject to individual performance and organisational requirements, and as defined in the applicable policies and staff rules and regulations. Duty Station:
ESO Headquarters in Garching, near Munich, Germany. This position involves duty travel to the ESO sites in Chile and/or partner institutes in Europe, North America and Japan.
