1. Deadline for the EAS Tycho Brahe Prize: Wednesday, January 30, 17:00

Due to unforeseen circumstances the last mail to all members which
contained among other items the 'Call for Nominations' for the Tycho
Brahe Prize, could be sent out to you only shortly before
Christmas. Since the period for the nominations for the Tycho Brahe
Prize (deadline January 15) has become very short, the EAS Council has
decided to prolong the nomination period until

Wednesday, January 30, 17:00.

EAS Council would like to ask all EAS members to nominate suitable
candidates for the Tycho Brahe Prize. The prize will be awarded 'in
recognition of the development or exploitation of European
instruments, or major discoveries based largely on such instruments.'
The statute of the Tycho Brahe Prize is available at

The nomination should be accompanied by a short justification (a CV with
at most two pages decribing the scientific achievements) and should be
sent by email only to the EAS Secretariat in Geneva (
eas AT unige.ch).
The deadline for the nomination is Wednesday, January 30. The first
Tycho Brahe Prize, which carries a monetary reward of 6000.- Eu will be
awarded at JENAM 2008 which will take place in Austria's capital Vienna,
September 8-12, 2008.

2. 38th Saas-Fee Course: Millimeter Astronomy

The 38th edition of the Saas-Fee courses will be held in Les
Diablerets, in the Swiss Alps. The course will start on Monday 3 March
and will end on Saturday 8 March 2008. It consists of 28 lectures of
50 minutes each. The daily schedule leaves free afternoons for
informal discussions and/or outdoor activities.  The topic of the
Saas-Fee Advance Course 2008 will be dedicated to:

MILLIMETER ASTRONOMY

The registration deadline is 1 Feb 2008.

3. ASTRON-JIVE International Summer Students Programme 2008

The Netherlands Foundation for Research in Astronomy (ASTRON) and the
Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe (JIVE) announce the availability of
a limited number of grants for their 2008 Summer Research
Programme. The Programme enables astronomy students (graduate or
advanced undergraduate) to spend the summer (10 to 12 weeks) at the
Dwingeloo Observatory, conducting astronomical research under the
supervision of ASTRON and JIVE staff members

Applications should arrive before the due deadline on February 15th, 2008.
