1. Request to pay outstanding membership fees

It has been brought to the attention of Council that a considerable
proportion of members has not yet paid their membership fees for the
current year. Council is convinced that this has been an oversight on
behalf of those members and that they will now promptly arrange for
payment to be made.

EAS is working hard, in these economically challenging times, to promote
astronomy at a European level. We can only continue to do so if we have
your full support. The activities of EAS Council, on behalf of its members,
are almost exclusively paid for out of membership fees, so it is crucially
important that you, the members, fulfill your part of the agreement.

2. Call for nominations for the Tycho Brahe Prize 2012

EAS Council now invites nominations for the 2012 Tycho Brahe Prize.
Short biographies of previous years' recipients and full details
regarding the prize, including a nomination form can be found on
the EAS webpages at:

Note the strict deadline for 2012 nominations of Monday, October 31, 2011.

3. EAS Colloquium Series (deadline extended)

In order to promote medium size meetings in astronomy and astrophysics,
and related areas, the European Astronomical Society (EAS) is launching
a series of EAS Colloquia (EASColl) to provide a mechanism to exchange
ideas and promote cross-fertilization of ideas between scientists working
in Europe.

EASColl are intended to be medium-size meetings of 50 to 80 people
dedicated to either established scientific domains or newly emerging fields
of small/growing communities, which can not apply for support to the large
EU Networks or qualify as International Astronomical Union Symposia (IAUS).

Therefore, we are pleased to announce the first call for proposals for the
EAS Colloquia.

Practical information (including the application form) can be found at:
	http://eas.unige.ch/meetings.jsp?tab=eascoll

- The deadline for submission is Monday, October 31, 2011 (the deadline
has been extended by a month as the original one coincided with a
variety of deadlines for telescope time and grant applications).
- Selection by Council is expected to take place by the mid December.
The funding is allocated for the next civil year.
