2. Second announcement: EWASS 2012

The European Week of Astronomy and Space Science 2012 (EWASS 2012) organised by
the Italian Astronomical Society (SAIt) on behalf of the European Astronomical
Society (EAS) will take place in Rome, Italy, at the Pontificia Università
Lateranense, during the week of July 1-6, 2012. EWASS 2012 will host 11 plenary
talks, 10 Symposia, 13 Special Sessions, and 8 Special Meetings on various
aspects of modern astronomy. The conference will address a wide range of topics
in Astronomy and Space Sciences, and related technologies, that are of interest
to the European astronomical community. The EAS Council meeting, Tycho Brahe
Prize and Woltjer Lecture will also take place during EWASS 2012.

Information on the preliminary program of the conference and 31 dedicated
events, with details on the program, and the confirmed speakers invited to give

	http://www.ifsi-roma.inaf.it/ewass2012/

Colleagues are invited to register for the conference and submit abstracts for
the events of their interest. The registration fee is € 350,00 (€ 250,00 early
registration) for professionals, € 150,00 (€ 100,00 early registration) for
students, € 100,00 for accompanying persons and € 50,00 for school teachers.

3. Call for Expressions of Interest to organise EAS Symposia during EWASS 2013

The European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS 2013) will take place
in Turku, Finland, from 8-13 July, 2013. On the evening of 7th July a welcome
reception is foreseen.

We now invite proposals from colleagues who are interested in organising a
Symposium or a Special Session.

A broad range of parallel sessions can be accommodated as

(A) "Symposia", consisting of up to 6 blocks of 1.5 hours, stretching over 2 days,

or

(B) "Special Sessions", consisting of up to 3 blocks of 1.5 hours.

Proposers should strive to make their proposals of interest to large fractions
of the European Astronomical community. All proposals should be submitted as
plain text email, with up to a maximum of 500 words, and should include the
following information:

      1. Title and type of proposed session

      2. Summary of the goal(s) of the session

      3. Names of organisers (at least two persons)

      4. Justification for proposed duration of the session
		(how many 1.5-hour blocks?)

      5. Anticipated audience size

Proposals should be sent to Elias BRINKS <secretary-eas @ unige.ch> with copies
to the SOC Chair: Esko Valtaoja <esko.valtaoja @ utu.fi> and to the LOC Chair:
Aimo Sillampää <aimosill @ utu.fi> by Friday 29th of June 2012 for
review by the SOC.

Applicants will be notified about the outcome of the selection process, most
likely within 4-6 weeks.

Individuals within the European Astronomy and Space Science communities, as
well as EU sponsored networks, are strongly encouraged to propose and organise
sessions.

4. Call for Proposals to organise EAS Colloquia

In order to promote medium size meetings in astronomy and astrophysics and
related areas, the European Astronomical Society (EAS) launched in 2011 a
series of EAS Colloquia (EASColl) to provide a mechanism to exchange ideas and
promote cross-fertilisation of ideas between scientists working in Europe.
EASColl are intended to be medium-size meetings of 50 to 80 people dedicated to
either established scientific domains or emerging fields of small/growing
communities, which can not apply for support to the large EU Networks or
qualify as International Astronomical Union Symposia (IAUS).

Therefore, we are pleased to announce the second Call for Proposals to organise
EAS Colloquia.

Practical information (including the application form) can be found on the EAS
Web pages at:

	http://eas.unige.ch/meetings.jsp?tab=eascoll

- The deadline for submission is June 25, 2012.

- Selection by Council is expected to take place at their Council meeting at
the Rome EWASS2012.

The funding is allocated for EASColl to be held the next calendar year, i.e.,
in the course of 2013.
