2. EWASS 2014: Program and grants for young researchers

The European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS) will take place in
Geneva from 30 June to 4 July. The Scientific Organizing Committee has selected
the list of Symposia and Special Sessions. The overall program of the meeting is
available on the EWASS 2014 website:

	http://eas.unige.ch/EWASS2014/program.jsp

The description of the individual sessions will be available in a few days and
registration will open before the end of the year.

Each year, EAS distributes grants covering at least the registration fees. These
grants are preferentially given to young EAS members, students and postdocs, who
present a talk. Therefore, we strongly encourage students and young astronomers
to become EAS members before the end of the year 2013 to be able to apply for a
grant in 2014. For more information on EAS grants, please refer to:

	http://eas.unige.ch/ewass.jsp?tab=grants

To apply for EAS membership, see:

3. Follow EAS on Facebook!

With the aim to reach more easily the younger generation of astronomers EAS has
started a Facebook page at:

	https://www.facebook.com/EuropeanAstronomicalSociety

Next to EAS announcements, it relays already many news on astronomy from
different sources. We will do our best to keep it a lively page.

6. 1st Gutenberg Astrophysics Winter School, Strasbourg, 13-15 January 2014

This School is dedicated to "multi-wavelength" astronomy and aimed at starting
PhD students looking for entry-level lectures and talks on how different
wavebands are combined to "press the juices" out of data: getting to know the
how and why from practical examples.

A series of more formal scientific talks will frame the background / context
of a set list of topics: kinematics, ISM modeling, etc.

There is no registration, some funds are available for external students who
require financial support to cover for local expenses / travel costs.

Important date: first round of registrations will close by 6 December 2013.
