1. EWASS 2015: Programme and opening of registration and abstract submission

The organisation of the European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS),
the EAS annual meeting to be held from 22 to 26 June 2015 in La Laguna,
Tenerife, Spain, is progressing well. The conference venue and locations for
the social programme have now been selected, and hotel rooms have been blocked.
We expect up to 1000 participants, attracted by a very broad and high-quality
scientific programme. This consists of 11 Symposia of typically 2 days duration
and 23 Special Sessions, typically of one day, as well as seven special
sessions. The science topics covered range from Solar physics, via exoplanets
and stellar and galaxy evolution, to Cosmology and Instrumentation.
EAS Prize winners will be presented with their MERAC, Woltjer or Tycho Brahe
Prizes, and will give their prize lectures. Confirmed plenary speakers include
Licia Verde, Maria Rosa Zapatero, Frédéric Bournaud, Michel Mayor, Alvaro
Giménez, and Tim de Zeeuw. The full programme and planning, as well as
many logistical details, can be found on the EWASS 2015 website.
Registration and abstract submission are open as of today!

2. EAS Newsletter 47 (Dec. 2014)

The EAS Newsletter No. 47 has just been finalized. You shall soon receive the
paper copy per post. In the meantime, you can already have a look at the
electronic version at:

3. Journal of Planetary Science: Call for Applications for Editor Positions

Springer invites applications or nominations for a position as (Co-)
Editor-in-Chief of the journal Planetary Science (planetary-science.com).
Also invited are applications by candidates willing to serve as Associate
Editors in the fields of Planetary Surface and Interior Geology, Mars, and
Exoplanets. More details can be found in the PDF document of the call.

4. IAU General Assembly: IAU Symposium 315 August 3-7, 2015, Honolulu
"From interstellar clouds to star-forming galaxies: Universal processes?"

The goal of this Symposium is to build a coherent picture of how star
formation is fuelled and proceeds in galaxies. It will gather researchers
working on this question with different viewpoints: from the scale of
Galactic molecular clouds to star-forming galaxies at high redshift.

For a detailed science rationale and a list of the key sessions of the
Symposium, please see: http://astronomy2015.org/symposium_315

Important deadlines:
December 1, 2014 - Early registration to the IAU General Assembly
March 18, 2015 - Abstract submission
April 1, 2015 - Grant application (support for attending the GA)
May 28, 2015 - Regular registration

5. IAU General Assembly: Focus Meeting on "The Legacy of Planck"
   11-13 August 2015, Honolulu

The IAU GA Focus Meeting 5 is sponsored by the IAU Division J (Galaxies and
Cosmology) and by Division H (Interstellar Matter and Local Universe), and
will be held during the general assembly in Honolulu.

The main objective of the meeting is to discuss the wide variety of scientific
results from the Planck mission, both in cosmology and astrophysics, and make
the community aware of the opportunities provided by the publicly available
Planck data products. Furthermore, feedback from a wide community is essential
to ensure that the final set of products (scheduled for late 2015) to be
produced by the Planck Collaboration is fully optimized. The meeting will
cover both cosmology and astrophysics as driven by Planck data and related
experiments.
