1. EWASS 2015: Important News and Deadlines

The European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS) is the premier annual
astronomy conference in Europe, organised by the European Astronomical Society
(EAS). The 2015 edition will be held in Tenerife, Spain, on 22-26 June 2015.

The scientific programme is very rich, with a total of 11 symposia and 30
special sessions and meetings, ranging in topic from Solar physics, via
exoplanets, stellar and galactic evolution, and cosmology, to instrumentation,
outreach, and science policy. Invited plenary speakers include Licia Verde,
Maria Rosa Zapatero Osorio, Michel Mayor, Frédéric Bournaud, Alvaro Giménez,
Tim de Zeeuw, and Mark Bentley, as well as the Woltjer lecturer, and the winners
of the Tycho Brahe and MERAC prizes (to be announced shortly).

The social programme includes a welcome reception, conference dinner, student's
evening, and optional excursions to the observatories on Tenerife and the
neighboring island of La Palma, as well as a free guided tour of the town San
Cristóbal de La Laguna.

We would like to remind you that the deadline for abstract submission for EWASS
2015 is already March 10, 2015!

Please submit your abstract via the speaker portal linked from:
	http://eas.unige.ch/EWASS2015/abstract_submission.jsp

We also encourage you to register for the conference and the social events on:

Requests for a limited number of Springer Travel Grants for young EAS members
- students and postdocs - who present a talk can be submitted at:

2. An EAS initiative: Astronomy representation in the decision-making bodies of
   the European Union

Please find linked below an important document describing an initiative of the
EAS, together with its affiliated societies, to enter into a scheme by which a
common strategy will be developed and efficiently represented in the decision-
making bodies of the European Union.

3. IUPAP/C19: Call for Nominations for the IUPAP Young Scientist Medals in the
   field of Astrophysics

The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) will award the
Young Scientist Medals of 2014 and 2015 and Awards of 1'000 EUR to two
scientists working in the field of astrophysics. The winners will be invited to
give a presentation of scientific achievements at the 28th Texas Symposium on
Relativistic Astrophysics (December 13-18, 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland).

The nominated candidate must not have completed more than eight years of
research after their doctorate by December 2014 and 2015, respectively.
Interruptions for military service, family emergencies, etc (but not teaching)
