Apply

The European Astronomical Society (EAS) promotes and advances astronomy in Europe. Professional astronomers consist our main body of individual members, including PhD students. However, the EAS is open to applications by non-professional astronomers that work actively toward the goals of the EAS; for example, professionals working in a planetarium, museum are welcome. Feel free to contact the EAS office if you wish to clarify your eligibility.

By becoming a member, you will strengthen the voice of European astronomy, support the various EAS activities and enjoy many benefits.

Members of Affiliated Societies (see list of Affiliated Societies) should not apply directly to EAS but should contact their Affiliated Society and indicate their interest in joining EAS. The Affiliated Societies will transmit lists on a regular basis. Alternatively, you can become a paying EAS Individual member and fill the form.

Update

Dear EAS member,

Did you change recently your affiliation, e-mail address, phone number ?

If so, please check and update your personal information below. You can also change your EAS login password at any time.

Update your Data

/!\ Automatic e-mail sending on the complete EAS site is currently not working due to an issue with the web server, which is independent of EAS. This prevents member applications and updates, and sending of updated login information. MERAC nominations and job postings are processed correctly, except for the e-mail confirmation. We are very sorry about the inconvenience and do our best to handle this situation manually.

Classes

The Individual Membership of the Society consists of Ordinary Members, Junior Members, and Honorary Members. Members of Affiliated Societies are also categorized as Ordinary or Junior Members, and share the same rights as the Individual Members. The EAS has also Organisational Members.

Ordinary Members
Persons who have shown by their contribution to science, by their professional activity or otherwise, to the Council's satisfaction, that they can further the cause and object of the Society, may become Ordinary members of the Society.
Persons applying for ordinary membership normally do so on the standard application form signed by two members.
IAU members are exempted from this signature formality. Members of Affiliated Societies are invited to become directly EAS members at no cost through their Affiliated Society.
Junior Members
Students for an advanced degree in astronomy or related science may become Junior members.
Students applying for Junior membership normally do so on the standard application form signed by the supervisor and one (other) Ordinary member. At the beginning of the year following the award of the Ph.D. degree, the junior membership shall cease and the junior member may request to become an Ordinary member. No person may be a junior member for more than seven years unless Council decides otherwise because of exceptional circumstances. Junior members are entitled to a reduced annual contribution (to be set by the council). They have the same right and privileges as Ordinary members.
PhD students that are members of Affiliated Societies are invited to become directly EAS members at no cost through their Affiliated Society.
Honorary Members
Honorary Members are elected by the Council.

To become a member of EAS, please fill in the application form.
