Postoctoral position in observational astrochemistry, the Niels Bohr Institute | Closing date: 2019-02-28 Contact: Lars E. Kristensen |
The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a postdoc position in astrophysics commencing 01.09.2019. The position is available for a 3-year period. | ▸ more | Description of the scientific environment
The candidate will join the group of Lars Kristensen in the Section of Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences at the Niels Bohr Institute. The group focuses on understanding the chemistry and physics of star-forming regions, specifically by observing such regions at millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths with telescopes such as the Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA), and the SubMillimeter Array (SMA). These observations are coupled with radiative-transfer models to further understand and constrain the chemistry taking place in these regions.
Project description
As part of the large program ?Protostellar Interferometric Line Survey of the Cygnus X star-forming region? (PILS-Cygnus), the successsful candidate will work on obtaining inventories of Sulphur-bearing species toward ten protostars in the Cygnus X region. The candidate will quantify the role the external environment plays in setting the chemistry and couple this with laboratory experiments. Experience with radiative-transfer modeling and/or analysis of far-infrared/sub-mm data will be an advantage.
