Postdoctoral position on exoplanet atmospheric studies at the Bordeaux Laboratory for Astrophysics | Closing date: 2019-09-16 Contact: Jeremy Leconte |
There is an opening for a 2 years postdoctoral researcher position on research associated with exoplanet atmospheric studies to start in the fall of 2019.
The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Leconte and the other members of the ERC WHIPLASH team at LAB. They will also be involved in the ARIEL space mission. The main goal of the project is to link 3D numerical modeling of exoplanetary atmospheres to current and upcoming observations of exoplanet characterization. Applicants are expected to propose and pursue their own innovative research projects as well.
| ▸ more | The applicant should have a demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: numerical modeling of exoplanet atmospheres, cloud formation, radiative transfer modeling of hot atmospheres, 3D general circulation models, analysis and/or modeling of observations of exo-atmospheres (especially from space).
The successful candidate will be hosted by the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Bordeaux (LAB), located on the campus of the University of Bordeaux, in the beautiful city of Bordeaux, in southern France. The institute provides a dynamic and diverse environment for professional development, and a stimulating work environment. The postdocs will also each receive a 4000 Euros-per-year travel grant to attend international conferences. Benefits include complete health insurance coverage and social security, as required by French law.
Requirements: Applicants are expected to have completed a PhD in astronomy, planetary sciences, or similar field by the time of starting the position. Applicants should send a single PDF document that includes curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a short statement of research interests also describing how they see their own contribution to the project.
