Postdoctoral position on Milky Way Models and Simulations in the Gaia Era | Closing date: 2021-06-15 Contact: Alejandra Recio-Blanco |
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (Nice, France) to work on Milky Way Models and Simulations in the Gaia era. The position is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, as part of the EXPLORE project. | ▸ more | The host research team is strongly engaged in Gaia/DPAC activities for the Gaia DR3, many international ground based spectroscopic surveys like WEAVE, APOGEE, MOONS and 4MOST, as well as in cosmological simulations. In particular, we are responsible for the production of the stellar parameters and chemical abundances estimated from Gaia/RVS data that will be published with the next DR3 (first half of 2022). This new Gaia chemical dimension, available for millions of stars in one year from now, will pose strong constraints to our understanding of the Galaxy evolution, from the disc to the halo stellar populations.
We are seeking candidates with an expertise in Galaxy models and simulations, possibly including chemical evolution (although this is not a requisite) to work on the interpretation of Gaia EDR3 and DR3 data, as well as ground-based observations.
Position is for two years. Net annual salary will be in the range 27 600 to 42 000 euros, depending on experience, with included social security and public healthcare benefits, covering spouse and children. Position is expected to begin no later than the fall of 2021, although exceptions can be made.
Applications must be submitted by email to alejandra.recio-blanco @ oca.eu with the subject 'Explore-Gaia postdoc application'.
