Two Postdoctoral Fellowship Positions in the Centre for Astrophysics Research at the University of Hertfordshire | Closing date: 2022-02-20 Contact: Prof. Kristen Coppin |
We are seeking to appoint two promising early-career researchers to lead original investigations in any area of theoretical or observational astrophysics that will complement active areas of research in the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR) at the University of Hertfordshire. | ▸ more | Details of CAR staff research interests/activities and facilities may be found here: https://www.herts.ac.uk/research/centres/car. CAR also has strong links and overlapping interests with the Centre of Data Innovation Research (CoDIR; https://www.herts.ac.uk/research/centres/codir), a relatively new research centre that combines data science and machine learning expertise from astrophysics and computer science and addresses cross-disciplinary research questions.
The postholder will have a good track record of scientific research in their area of expertise, including leading projects and submitting/publishing their work in refereed astronomical journals. Whilst this is an independent fellowship, there is an expectation that the successful candidate(s) will start new or strengthen existing collaborations with members of CAR, including leading/collaborating on external grant bids, helping out with some light departmental teaching, and should be prepared to contribute more generally to the general research environment.
Candidates should have (or submitted for) a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics before taking up the posts, which are available from August 1, 2022 and should be taken up (ideally) no later than October 1, 2022. The starting salary is expected to be £34,304 per annum, incrementing annually, with a higher salary possible based on previous postdoctoral experience. The fellowship duration is for 3 years on a full-time basis (1 FTE), but the possibility of fractional / part-time working will also be considered.
For further details please see our recruitment website (https://www.herts.ac.uk/staff/careers-at-herts; JobID 039075), where you will also need to submit your application by February 20 2022 including a CV, list of publications, a research proposal for the duration of the fellowship (making sure to indicate how your proposed research is complementary to CAR, and not exceeding two sides of A4 paper), and the contact details of two referees willing to write on your behalf.
Informal enquiries can be directed to Prof Kristen Coppin (Director of CAR, k.coppin @ herts.ac.uk)
