Postdoctoral positions in Radio Astronomy at the Institute of Astrophysics - FORTH, Crete (Greece) | Closing date: 2022-05-01 Contact: Carolina Casadio |
The Institute of Astrophysics at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (IA-FORTH), located in the island of Crete (Greece) is expecting to recruit two postdoctoral researchers in Radio Astronomy, who will work, under the supervision of Dr. Carolina Casadio and they will collaborate with an international team of experts in the field. The positions will be funded by the European Research Council Starting Grant (agreement No 101040021), entitled "SMILE: Search for milli-lenses to discriminate between dark matter models".
| ▸ more | The postdoctoral researchers are expected to mainly work on the calibration, analysis and interpretation of radio Very Long Baseline Interferometric (VLBI) data of sources in the SMILE sample as well as actively participate in follow-up observations of gravitational lens candidates and the scientific exploitation of the results. They will also have the possibility of close collaborations with experts in signal processing and machine learning at the Signal Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science - FORTH, in Crete. Moreover, they will be offered the opportunity of spending extended training/collaboration periods at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR) in Bonn Germany, at the Radio Astronomy/VLBI department lead by Prof. J. Anton Zensus, as well as at the group of Prof. Anthony C. Readhead at Caltech (USA).
The net monthly salaries will be ~1600 Euros (level of Ast. Professor in Greece). Applicants for the postdoctoral positions are required to have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or a related field at the time of the appointment. We encourage the applications from researchers with expertise in radio interferometry and VLBI data calibration, and physics of active galaxies. Good skills in programming are also highly desirable. The recruitment process will remain open until the positions are filled.
Interested candidates are invited to communicate with Dr. Carolina Casadio by May 1st 2022, sending their CV at ccasadio @ ia.forth.gr.
