The Centre for Space Research (CSR) at North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, South Africa, is inviting applications for a senior research associate specialising in galaxy formation and evolution studies.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out research in optical, infrared or radio observational astronomy or simulations relevant to the group's interest in galaxy evolution. The group is actively involved in various MeerKAT large surveys, projects involving the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), and other related national and international initiatives. | ▸ more | The successful candidate is required to have:
- A PhD in astronomy
- Five or more years of research experience (can be inclusive of Ph.D.) in galaxy formation and evolution and/or optical, infrared or radio astronomy
- An excellent publication record, commensurate with career stage
The starting date is January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be for 5 years, depending on satisfactory performance. Renumeration is R438 000 per annum (ZAR, tax free). The successful candidate is expected to contribute to key research, and to the research team by:
- Working to improve publication throughput of the research team
- Participating in (co)-supervision of at least one M.Sc or Ph.D student per annum
- Participating in grant writing with the submission of at least one grant proposal per annum
- Participating in the administration, and facilitation of certain research activities as delegated
