We invite applications for PhD fellowship at the CFT PAN. We search for candidates interested in the research in the domain of astrophysics. Candidates with previous experience in AGN observational data analysis, and in programming are particularly welcome. PI of the project is Prof. Bo?ena Czerny.
At the time of application the candidates should either have a MSc degree in physics or astronomy, or will obtain it before signing the contract. We search for candidates interested in the research in the domain of astrophysics. Candidates with previous experience in AGN observational data analysis, and in programming are particularly welcome.
The topic of the student research will be focused on modeling continuum variability in active galaxies in different wavelength bands, including effects of the medium surrounding the accretion disk, predicting time delays between these bands, and finally using that to constrain the cosmological parameters. The research will be done at the institute (CFT - Centrum Fizyki Teoretycznej PAN), but the PhD courses will be implemented as part of the "Geoplanet" Doctoral School (https://geoplanetschool.pl/home,2,en.html/). Recruitment to the School /project work is carried out by CFT.
Candidates should submit before June 15, 2021, the following documents to the Secretariat of the Center, at rekrutacja @ cft.edu.pl):
1. The scientific CV, including the list of major scientific achievements, list of publications, participation in research projects and conferences, and the document must contain a statement: ?I consent to the processing of my personal data for the needs of the recruitment process (in accordance with the Law dated 29.08.97 on the protection of personal data (Journal of Laws, No. 101, item 926)?.
2. Short motivation letter
3. Transcript of grades (Bachelor and Master degree courses)
4. Personal questionnaire form (should be downloaded from CTP web site)
5. At least one recommendation letter, including the letter from the MSc advisor
6. Certified copy of the MSc diploma or the letter from the supervisor about the prospects for completion of the Thesis before the beginning of the employment
The scholarship is awarded in accordance with the rules set out in the Regulations on granting scientific scholarships in research projects financed by the National Science Center, introduced by the resolution of the Council of the National Science Center no. 96/2016, dated 27/10/2016 r.). It will amount to PLN 4,500 gross per month (the amount may include a public law charge in accordance with applicable regulations, e.g. insurance).
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview via video conferencing no later than 25 June 2021. The competition results will be announced by 5 July 2021. Candidates will be informed electronically about the results of the competition. Admission to the PhD School and work for the project are scheduled for 1 October 2021.
