PhD position on distant star-forming galaxies | Closing date: 2022-03-01 Contact: Daniel Schaerer |
The research group on "Galaxies and the Universe" of the Geneva Observatory expects to recruit new PhD students to start in fall 2022.
| ▸ more | The successful candidates will work on projects studying star-forming galaxies in the nearby and distant Universe, involving multi-wavelength observations and/or state-of-the-art modeling. The projects include in particular cycle 1 spectroscopic observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (the LyC22 survey with NIRSpec/JWST), and other studies of emission line galaxies, Lyman continuum emitters and related objects. A related project will focus on new, ambitious spectral models for star-forming galaxies. The candidates will work with the group of Prof. Daniel Schaerer in Geneva and within international collaborations.
The Geneva Observatory and the associated Laboratory of Astrophysics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) carry out observational, interpretative and theoretical research in the fields of extra-solar planets, stellar physics, high energy astrophysics, galaxy evolution, and observational cosmology.
The post-doc appointment will be for one to three years, renewable.
PhD appointments are for four years. Starting dates are in sept-oct 2022, negotiable.
