Within the framework of the newly established CRC 1491 "The Interplay of Cosmic Matter - from Source to Signal", a total of 3 PhD positions are currently available at the Astronomical Institute of the Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) in the following subprojects:
A2: Magnetic fields, cosmic rays and outflows in dwarf galaxies (Prof. Bomans).
A5: Decoding cosmic ray signatures in AGN starburst composites (Prof. Dettmar)
F6: Dark matter and gas in galaxies (Dr Wright). | ▸ more | The Astronomical Institute (Faculty of Physics and Astronomy) of the Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) is looking to recruit three scientific assistants (m/f/d) with 29.87 hours per week (TVL E13) limited for 3 years.
Within the framework of the newly established CRC 1491 "The Interplay of Cosmic Matter - from Source to Signal", a total of 3 positions are currently available in the following subprojects:
A2: Magnetic fields, cosmic rays and outflows in dwarf galaxies (Prof. Bomans).
A5: Decoding cosmic ray signatures in AGN starburst composites (Prof. Dettmar)
F6: Dark matter and gas in galaxies (Dr Wright).
Your tasks:
Research in the respective project and linked projects in the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1491. A PhD thesis inside project context is desired and will be actively promoted within the integrated graduate school of the CRC.
Core tasks in the respective projects are the following:
A2: Reduction and analysis of radio continuum and multi-messenger data from dwarf galaxies with high and low star formation rates.
A5: Reduction and analysis of radio continuum and multi-messenger data from AGN starburst galaxies
F6: Reduction and analysis of Galaxy-Galaxy Lensing data from ground-based and space telescopes.
Your profile:
* A Master degree in physics or astronomy.
* Experience with data from radio astronomical interferometers (A2, A5)
* Experience with astronomical optical / NIR imaging survey data (F6)
* Willingness and motivation to work in international teams
* good command of the English language, both written and spoken
* solid knowledge in programming, ideally in Python and/or R
