1. MERAC Prizes for young European astronomers — new deadline for applications
The EAS Council invites EAS members to nominate suitable candidates for the
MERAC Prizes of 2013. This being an uneven year, the three prizes will be
for the Best Early Career Researchers (i.e. up to 10 years after PhD).
The deadline for nomination has been extended to
Friday, October 12, 2012 at 16:00 CEST.
Please refer to the following link for further information and nomination:

2. ESLAB 2013: The Universe as seen by Planck
2-5 April 2013
ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands
1st Announcement:
A conference dedicated to present and discuss the initial science results from
Planck, ESA's mission to map the anisotropies of the Cosmic Microwave Background
( http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Planck/ ).
More details on the conference can be found at the website:

3. 43rd "Saas-Fee Advanced Course" of the Swiss Society for Astrophysics and
Astronomy (SSAA)
STAR FORMATION IN GALAXY EVOLUTION:
CONNECTING NUMERICAL MODELS TO REALITY
11-16 March 2013, Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland
The goal of this Saas-Fee course is to give an overview of the major
computational techniques used to solve the equations governing
self-gravitating fluids, including radiation and magnetic fields, to
make an inventory of the physical processes involved at different scales,
and to see how they can be properly incorporated in the simulations.
HANDS-ON SESSIONS
Hands-on exercises will be proposed in order to train the students with
numerical techniques used in astrophysics. The exercises will cover a variety
of topics, linked to the formation of galaxies, like orbits computation,
preparation of initial conditions, comparing gravity solvers, performing
hydrodynamical tests, analysis and visualization of simulations, etc.
REGISTRATION
The number of participants is limited to about one hundred.
