Lunch Session LS4
1 July 2021
Massively multiplexed, large-aperture, spectroscopy: Science and synergies in the 2030sHighly multiplexed spectroscopy on a dedicated, 8 - 12m, facility has been recognized by many communities as essential to the coming decades of astronomical discovery. In this arena, the most well-developed project is the Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer. In this Lunch Session, we will bring together the community to discuss the ongoing scientific roadmap for development of dedicated, large aperture multi-object spectroscopy in Europe and more broadly, including building on the imminent WEAVE and 4MOST experiences. We will review the scientific opportunities likely to be present at first light of such a facility, including synergies with the final data release of Gaia, the ELT, and facilities at a range of wavelengths Programme
