Myths and facts about women in astronomy

Aims and scope

Gathering statistics over a period of many years is very important to disentangle myths and facts about why most countries have a lower percentage of proffesional women within astronomy and academia than expected according to the numbers of women holding a PhD or equivalent. It seems that the Gender Advantage is always in favor of men. Gathering statistics helps us, as scientists, understand the situation and make attempts to improve it. We will dedicate this session to a presentation of statistics on gender within different areas of astronomy and a presentation of different programatics within academia aimed at closing the current gender gab.
