Special Meeting SM1  26 June 2015

European Interferometry Initiative (EII) Science Council meeting

News:

Aims and scope

The European Interferometry Initiative (EII) is an open association of institutes and laboratories that collaborate on the scientific exploitation and development of long baseline interferometry in optical/infrared astronomy. The EII represents and coordinates the activities of 20 institutes in 14 countries on a transnational level and manages OPTICON FP6/FP7 funds to sponsor networking and training activities such as the "Fizeau exchange grants" and the "VLTI schools".

The main governing body of the EII is the Science Council (EII-SC) and the next face-to-face meeting will take place at EWASS 2015 on Tenerife. The three sessions (1.5 hours each) will facilitate overview talks and discussions on the EII activities and host the mid-term progress review of our FP7-funded joint research activity on "Image Reconstruction in Optical Interferometry" and our working group on "The Future of Interferometry in Europe". The progress review sessions will also be open to interested conference participants that are not directly associated with the EII-SC. The meeting will not include contributed talks or poster, but such contributions are invited for the "VLTI Community Day" that will also take place during EWASS 2015.

Programme

  • Mid-term progress review of the FP7-funded joint research activity on "Image Reconstruction". The review includes a report by the work package leader, followed by an extensive discussion about the achieved milestones and the remaining work.
  • Mid-term progress review of the FP7-funded working groups on "The Future of Interferometry in Europe". The review includes a report by the work package leader, followed by an extensive discussion about the achieved milestones and the remaining work.
  • Discussion on EII-activities to maximize the scientific return of 2nd-generation instruments
  • Coordination of our efforts on establishing VLTI Expertise Centres
  • Planning of EII activities in OPTICON/Horizon 2020
  • Preparations for the VLTI School 2015
  • Election of the EII executive team
