Welcome Cocktail

The Welcome Cocktail will be served at the end of the conferences on the late afternoon of Monday, 22 June 2015. We ask a nominal contribution of 5 € for conference participants in order to confirm attendance.

Date: Monday, 22 June 2015 from 19:30 to 21:30
Place: Finca Mac-Kay (walking distance from the venue)
Ticket: 5 € for registered participants (30 € otherwise). Pre-registration required.

Student Drink

A simple, informal drink and finger food will be served for PhD students to allow them to meet each other and exchange their experience. This event takes place on Tuesday, 23 June 2015.

Date: Tuesday, 23 June 2015 from 19:30 to 21:30
Place: The Bulan, Santa Cruz
Ticket: Free for registered students. Pre-registration required.

Conference Dinner

The conference dinner takes place on the evening of Wednesday 24 June 2015. Appetizers will be served in the gardens, after which dinner will be served inside. We ask a nominal contribution of 15 € for conference participants in order to confirm attendance.

Date: Wednesday, 24 June 2015 from 20:00 to 23:00 (doors open at 19:45)
Place: Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Ticket: 15 € for registered participants (65 € otherwise). Pre-registration required.

Excursions

Observatory Roque de los Muchachos

The Observatory Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) is placed on the edge of the Caldera Taburiente National Park, 2396 m above the sea level in the municipality of Garafía on the island of La Palma. It hosts one of the most extensive fleets of telescopes that can be found anywhere in the world, and owns the 10.4 m "Gran Telescopio Canarias", presenting the world's largest single- aperture optical telescope. The climate conditions at the Observatory are ideal not only for night time observations but also for Solar Physics.

The ticket fee includes:

  • Round trip ground transfers on Tenerife

  • Round trip ground transfers on La Palma
    (airport → Roque de los Muchachos → airport)

Telescope Observatory "El Teide"

The Telescope Observatory "El Teide" is located 2'390 m above sea level in Izaña. The first telescope to study zodiacal light - light dispersed by interplanetary material - entered in service in the observatory in 1964.

Its geographical location (between the eastern and western solar observatories), summed up to the clarity and excellent climate conditions of the sky, make the Observatory del Teide the perfect place to study the sun. This is the reason why it hosts the Europe's finest solar telescopes.

Date: Monday, 22 and Tuesday, 23 June 2015 (afternoon, bus leaves after lunch from the venue)
Ticket: 10 €

The ticket fee includes:

  • Round trip ground transfers from the Conference Venue to the Observatory

Visit of La Laguna

"San Cristóbal de La Laguna", considered as the cultural capital of the Canary Islands, is a city and municipality in the northern part of the island of Tenerife, in the province of Santa Cruz. La Laguna's historical centre was declared world Heritage by the UNESCO in 1999. The streets in the centre of La Laguna are plenty of monuments and historical buildings moreover is an important centre of commercial activity. Besides the cultural side, it offers a lively ambience since it's an important place of university tradition, with a wide assortment of bars, and leisure places. Some of the main sites are: the Cathedral of La Laguna, the conception church, San Cristóbal de La Laguna town hall, and the Saint Francisco Sanctuary and Convent.

Date: Daily at 9:30 and 17:00 (on Thursday 25 June only at 17:00)
Ticket: Free (includes a guided tour in English)

Meeting point: Tourist Information Office Casa de Los Capitanes Generales (Casa Alvarado Bracamonte) located in number 7, Street de La Carrera (Street Obispo del Rey Redondo).
