The University of Vienna announces availability of a Johannes Kepler Postdoctoral Position in Astrophysics. Kepler positions will be awarded to outstanding candidates demonstrating a high research profile in the specified area of observational, numerical, or theoretical astrophysics. Kepler postdocs will carry out their independent research programs, but are strongly encouraged to engage in project collaborations. We seek an outstanding candidate developing research in the field of exoplanetary atmospheres, their observations and/or theoretical modeling, including future data from JWST. | ▸ more | The position is part of the Star and Planet Formation group of Prof. Manuel Guedel that hosts a large national research program on planetary habitability (http://path.univie.ac.at) offering many opportunities for participation and collaboration. Applications from excellent candidates in other research fields of the group (star formation, protoplanetary disks, planet formation) will also be considered.
The Kepler postdoc will have access to observatories of ESO and ESA; for numerical work, the Vienna Scientific Cluster is accessible. There are opportunities to interact within ongoing/planned instrument projects (PLATO, CHEOPS, Athena, ESO E-ELT, etc). Funds are made available to support travel expenses and conference participation. A modest level of teaching is expected. The position should be filled at the earliest possible date but no earlier than 1 December 2016. Duration of employment: 4 years.
