The Niels Bohr Institute invites applications for an associate professorship in exoplanetary astrophysics at the Section of Astrophysics and Planetary Science.
The exoplanet research at NBI is at present focused on understanding differences and similarities between the formation of our own solar system and the population of exoplanetary systems throughout the Galaxy.
We seek an individual with a strong background in exoplanetary and stellar astronomy, with the ability to bring frontline observational techniques into the exoplanet research. A good understanding of the associated instrumental development is considered an advantage.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant?s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
While the position is at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI), the physical place of work is at the Natural History Museum of Denmark (SNM), Centre for Star and Planet Formation (StarPlan), and the research is expected to be in close connection with the research done at the Centre. StarPlan is a joint centre of excellence between SNM and NBI, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. Research at the Centre is focused on understanding the formation of planetary systems, including the Solar System, using a multidisciplinary approach that combines astronomy, astrophysics and cosmochemistry, based in experimental, observational, as well as numerical approaches. NBI comprise the physics department of the Faculty of Science, while SNM on top of the scientific research and teaching activities encompass a large element of outreach. Further information on the departments is linked at http://www.science.ku.dk/english/about-the-faculty/departments/. Inquiries about the position can be made to Prof. Robert Feidenhans?l, Head of NBI, +45 28750397, robert @ nbi.ku.dk, and to Prof. Martin Bizzarro, Centre leader of StarPlan, +45 35322331, bizzarro @ snm.ku.dk.
The position is open from 1 March 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
