ONE POSTDOCTORAL CONTRACT ON FORMATION AND EVOLUTION OF GALAXIES | Closing date: 2017-02-28 Contact: Secretariat of the Research Division |
The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for ONE Postdoctoral contract to work on numerical simulations associated to the research line ?Formation and Evolution of Galaxies?. This contract is financed by the "SEVERO OCHOA PROGRAM" (SEV-2015-0548), supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. It follows the selection of the IAC as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Spanish Government in 2015, a prestigious recognition awarded for the second time to the IAC as a leading research institute in Spain. | ▸ more | The selected candidate will carry out theoretical and numerical research on the formation and evolution of galaxies with particular focus on the properties of the present day galaxy population. She/he will have access to data from state-of-the-art numerical, cosmological simulations, as well as detailed observations carried out by IAC researchers. The postdoc will join the newly established galaxy formation and evolution theory group, led by dr Claudio Dalla Vecchia, with close ties to the observers at IAC. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to interact with an extensive network of international collaborators.
Expertise in the following topics will be highly valued:
? Knowledge of programming languages and numerical codes
? Experience in the analysis of simulation data
? Knowledge of the physics of formation and evolution of galaxies
? Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
The following will also be considered:
? Scientific or technical contributions in the current field of research of the applicant
? Participation in international conferences
? Experience in different scientific institutions
Position requirements: The candidates must have a solid track record of research and are expected to have a strong publication record in the field of formation and evolution of galaxies.
Qualification requirements: To be eligible for admission, applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree in Astrophysics or Physics, within the application deadline (February 28, 2017).
Duration: The duration of the contract will be of 2 years. The starting date is expected to be no later than January 1, 2018.
Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 33,215 Euros, subject to up to 20% tax and Social Security deductions (depending on the personal situation of the candidate). Medical insurance under the Spanish National Health Service will be provided for the candidate and will also cover spouse or registered partner (de facto partner) and children (if relevant).
Relocation allowance: This call includes a relocation allowance comprising: the cost of the flight ticket (booked and issued by the IAC), temporary accommodation for up to two weeks (organised by the IAC) and per diem rate up to two weeks. The maximum IAC will reimburse is 2,000 Euros.
Non-UE citizens: Applicants who are not citizen of a country belonging to the European Union are invited to apply for this position, but, if selected, will be allowed to sign the contract with the IAC only after obtaining the compulsory documentation required to live and work in Spain.
