Lunch Session LS1
26 June 2019
The ESA Space Science Archives
Aims and scope
This lunch session is meant to update the European space science community on the assets, services, and tools offered by the ESA Space Science Archives. The session will include presentations by members of the ESAC Science Data Centre (ESDC) covering the current status of the archives, the new analysis and research tools and services that they offer, and the long-term strategy. During the session, ESDC members will also provide demos on how to seamlessly explore and compare the content of the archives with ESASky and on how to start scientific investigations using Python tools and Jupyter notebooks.
Ample time will be allocated for an open-floor discussion, with questions and answers, soliciting inputs and feedback from the community.
Programme
The preliminary programme includes a number of short presentations and demos covering the following topics:
- 13.00 Welcome (Guido De Marchi)
- 13.00 Status and long-term strategy (Deborah Baines)
- 13.10 Astronomy Archives Users Group (Beate Stelzer)
- 13.20 Demo on ESASky (Deborah Baines)
- 13.40 Demo on using Python/Astropy tools and Jupyter notebooks to explore the ESA Astronomy Archives (Marcos Lopez Caniego)
The last half hour (14.00 — 14.30) will be reserved for an open-floor discussion, moderated by Pedro García–Lario, to give a voice to everyone interested in using space-science data in their research.
