Lunch Session LS4  1 July 2022

CDS Reference Services for the Astronomy Community

Aims and scope

The Strasbourg Astronomical Data Centre (CDS - Centre de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg) celebrates in 2022 its 50 years of operations.

We take this opportunity to update the community on the capabilities of services and tools provided by the CDS, in particular its reference services (SIMBAD, VizieR and Aladin), but also recent developments including the CDS Portal, the CDS fast catalogue cross match service, and access to hundreds of all-sky image surveys. Access to CDS services via Python and TAP (Table Access Protocol), and the management of spatial and temporal coverage of data collections will be demonstrated.

Special attention will be given to explaining the role of CDS services in the publication of data from refereed astronomy journals. Presentations will highlight the best practices for authors to facilitate the efficient ingestion of data from their publications into the CDS services, and a dedicated discussion time will be allocated for community feedback.

(As an informational lunch session all presentations will be provided by CDS)
