Symposium S2  10-11 July 2023

Special Symposium : 10 years of MERAC Prizes awarded by EAS

Aims and scope

This is the first MERAC Symposium to celebrate the 10 years since the establishment of the MERAC Prizes endowed by the MERAC Foundation and endorsed by the EAS. The MERAC awardees of the past years will present their research highlights, and their scientific outlook for the future, The talks will span a wide range of topics in astrophysics and cosmology, reflecting the wide range of fields in which awardees have established themselves as top-notch researchers in Europe, The program will showcase the scientific excellence of european astronomy over the past decade in theory, observation, instrumentation, and computational techniques and models. Within the Symposium we will also take the opportunity to commemorate Professor George Lake, who played a fundamental role in the establishment of the Prizes.

Programme

The topics will range from galaxy formation and evolution, to stellar and planetary astrophysics, cosmology, high-energy astrophysics, stellar dynamics, gravitational wave sources, novel techniques for observational astronomy, and simulation techniques

The program will be articulated in two days, July 10-11, with morning sessions running from 9-12 and afternoon sessions from 16:45 to 18:10. On Day 2 (July 11) a special lunch session to honor the memory of George Lake will be run from 12 :00 to 14:00
