Aims and scope

Throughout history, art has played a crucial role in conveying messages through depiction and symbolism - from painting and sculptures, to dance and music. These art forms can transcend language barriers and borders, and take universally accessible forms.

In these sessions, we will explore avenues of science communication using different crafting tools and methods. These crafts can distil complex ideas into immersive experiences attainable by a broader audience. This in turn can help develop an understanding of scientific concepts and aid in inspiring members of the public to explore ground-breaking science.

There will be an additional focus on themes such as:

Outreach and Engagement - How can we effectively communicate ideas to a broader non-specialised/public audience using art? How do we connect with art and artists to help with this?

Inspiring Science Using Art - Can art be used to inspire science? Art is fuelled by creativity and innovation. Could this be used to inspire new ideas, perspectives, and interpretations relating to existing research?

EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion) - Can we use art to show the diversity and roots of science and different cultures?

Science Accessibility - Can we develop tools to make research outputs accessible through alternative sensory channels? For example, tools such as the Tactile Universe, Tactile Collider, and Audible Universe have proved that it is possible to make astronomy research accessible through touch and sound.
