Aims and scope
The session will discuss the development status and the science objectives of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), the first ground-based gamma-ray observatory, that will soon become a new European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). We will discuss the status of the CTAO ERIC and its data release policy, in particular given the fact that the CTAO is the first Cherenkov telescope facility open to proposal-based observations. Secondly, the CTAO science cases will be discussed in detail in the context of the current status of very high-energy gamma-ray astronomy (E > 100 GeV) and its possible multimessenger and multiwavelength synergies.
