Statement on equality and racism

Equality, diversity and inclusion are amongst the core values of the European Astronomical Society. We believe that the barriers and limitations to scientific careers brought by racism, inequity and discrimination of any sort are an unacceptable damage to individuals, to the Society and to the advancement of science.

The EAS supports the peaceful protesters standing up against racism and discrimination, for a more equitable and just society.

As we prepare for our upcoming annual meeting, we wish to renew our commitment to eradicate any form of discrimination and build an equitable, diverse and inclusive community. We have recently established "Inclusion Day" as one of the regular Special Sessions during the annual meeting, and, with the help of the newly formed EAS Inclusion Working Group, we are looking into the specific actions we can take to make the Society accessible and welcoming to members from all backgrounds and circumstances.

We welcome input and participation from our community in this context, as we all work together towards a society where everyone is truly afforded equal opportunities.
