Public lecture

A public lecture will be given by Dr David Elbaz, Directeur de Recherche at the Département d'Astrophysique - CEA Saclay, and Managing Editor of Astronomy & Astrophysics on Thursday July 2, 2026.

The topic will be: Comment le JWST change notre vision de l'histoire de l'univers.

The lecture will be given in French.

For the first time in the history of astronomy, we have a "submarine" capable of plunging into the depths of the cosmic abyss: the James Webb Space Telescope. What it reveals evokes the exploration of the ocean floor, when entirely new forms of life, such as extremophiles, were first discovered. The implications of Webb's observations are fueling intense debate among specialists, and many questions remain open. But one thing is certain: our understanding of the universe will never be the same. With the JWST, a new narrative of the universe is taking shape, one in which new key players are emerging. During this presentation, we will explore the JWST's most surprising discoveries, as well as the striking beauty of its images.
