EAS Fellows

The EAS fellows program aims to recognise EAS members for their contributions toward the Society's purpose, i.e., to contribute to and promote the advancement of astronomy, in its broadest sense, in Europe.

Statutes

Starting in 2026, the EAS will introduce the EAS fellows programme to recognise current EAS members for their contributions toward the Society's purpose, i.e., to contribute to and promote the advancement of astronomy, in its broadest sense, in Europe. The EAS fellows program is aimed to complement the EAS Prizes. EAS fellows may be recognised, for example, for their research achievements, contributions to astronomical techniques or instrumentation, significant contributions to education and public outreach, and noteworthy service to European astronomy and to the Society itself.

Nominations should be submitted during the period indicated by the call. Only EAS ordinary members are eligible to be nominated, while Junior members are not. Nominations can only be submitted by EAS members and endorsed by 2 additional individuals, at least one of whom must be an EAS member. The nominations shall contain a CV, a statement supporting the nomination, and a proposed citation. A list of publications may also be attached to the CV, if applicable, but is not required. The EAS Council will review the nominations and select up to 5 EAS fellows. The EAS Council can furthermore add 1-2 EAS fellows at its own discretion. This is about 0.1% of the EAS membership in 2025.

The EAS fellows will receive a certificate, which will be presented at the EAS annual meeting following the call. Their names will also be published on the EAS website. The title does not entail any monetary award, and does not confer additional rights or duties beyond those of standard EAS membership. Fellows who are paying members must continue to pay annual membership dues. If an EAS Fellow later discontinues their membership, they may still refer to themselves as an EAS Fellow.

The following individuals shall be ineligible for nomination:

  • Members of the EAS Council
  • Members of the Prize Committee
  • Members of the Nominating Committee
  • Members of the EAS Advisory Committees, Working Groups or Policy Group
  • Members of the EAS Office
  • Junior members of EAS
  • Non-members of EAS

Note that self-nominations are not allowed.
