The LBT governing organization is the LBT Corporation (LBTC), a non-profit organization based in Tucson, AZ, USA. Members are INAF (Italy), LBTB (a consortium of German Institutes), Ohio State University and Unioversity of Arizona.
The LBT Corporation is seearching for a new Director of the Observatory.
The Director is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Observatory; prepares and implements the annual program plan and budget; and assigns observing time in accordance with the Partners? shares, the approved program plan and other guidelines as established by the Board.
The LBT Director will report to the LBTC Board of Directors and the Dean of the UA College of Science and will be formally employed through the University of Arizona.
The ideal candidate has:
- A PhD in astronomy or equivalent degree in a closely related field;
- A passion about reaching challenging scientific and technical goals;
- Demonstrated track record in leading complex scientific projects to success;
- Demonstrated skills in critical analysis, problem solving, and conflict resolution;
- Ability to manage multiple, potentially conflicting priorities;
- Demonstrated ability to build diverse, high-performing teams.
Experience in strategic planning, budgetary planning, and financial management, as well as specific experience in the field of AO and astronomical instrumentation, are considered strong assets.
The LBT Observatory Director is a full-time employee of the University of Arizona.

The LBTO Director will be hired as a Career Track Faculty, that is a non-tenured, non-continuing status position.
The Board intends to assign the Director a 5-year mandate, potentially renewable, and subject to annual performance reviews.
The new appointment can start as soon as the new Director is available to take the role. The ideal timing is January 2022, but earlier or later dates can also be considered.
