NEMESIS has the ambition to reshape our understanding on the formation of stars by employing artificial intelligence methods to compile and interpret the largest, panchromatic data collection of young stellar objects. | ▸ more | The successful candidates should have a solid background in at least one of the following topics: star formation, classification of young stellar objects, application of machine learning techniques in large datasets.
Tasks will include processing of photometric and time domain data (mostly from the Herschel Space Observatory, but also from other IR and optical satellites/telescopes), collecting data, building training samples for supervised classification, regression, also unsupervised analysis of the available parameters of Young Stellar Objects. Programming skills in R and/or Python are advantageous.
The successful candidate will work with Dr. Gábor Marton at Konkoly Observatory (the Astronomical Institute of the Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences, which belongs to the Eötvös Loránd Research Network) in Budapest, Hungary, however candidates are expected to spend extended working visits at the other participating institutes. At Konkoly Observatory he/she will find a rich and vibrant research environment in the fields of extra-solar planets, solar and stellar physics, astrophysical and geochemical laboratory, nuclear and extragalactic astrophysics. Konkoly Observatory is Hungary's largest astronomical institute, located in a newly renovated building in a beautiful natural reserve area, half hour from the city center. The observatory has been dynamically expanding in recent years, including two ERC-funded projects and several international staff members. The observatory maintains telescopes at a Hungarian mountain station and astronomers regularly observe with international instrumentation as well.
