The Institute of Astrophysics at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (IA-FORTH), located in the island of Crete (Greece) is expecting to recruit one postdoctoral researcher in the field of Infrared Extra-galactic Astronomy, who will work under the supervision of Dr. Tanio Diaz Santos and will collaborate with an international team of experts in the topic.
| ▸ more | The postdoc is expected to mainly work on the processing, analysis and interpretation of infrared, sub-millimeter and radio datasets obtained with the Atacama Large Millimeter-submillimeter Array (ALMA) and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) for a sample of interacting, luminous infrared galaxies in the nearby Universe. The postdoc is also expected to actively participate in follow-up observations of the galaxy sample and other similar sources using current and future ground- or space-based telescope facilities. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to work on projects related to the recently launched James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). They will also have the possibility to form collaborations with international experts in galaxy evolution via training periods and extended visits to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Charlottesville, VA, USA, at the group of Prof. Aaron Evans, as well as to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, CA, USA, at the group of Dr. Lee Armus.
The initial appointments for the postdoc position is for two years, with the possibility of extension for an additional year after a review. The net monthly salary will be ~1600? The recruitment process will remain open until the position is filled.
Applicants for the position are required to have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field at the time of the appointment. We encourage applications from researchers with expertise in infrared astronomy and/or sub-mm or radio interferometry. Experience on the topic of the physics and interstellar medium properties of star-forming and active galaxies is highly desirable. Good programming skills are also a plus.
Interested candidates are invited to communicate with Dr. Tanio Diaz Santos by June 1, 2022 or earlier, sending a research statement (2 pages max.) and their CV to tanio @ ia.forth.gr
