| Postdoctoral Position in Stellar Atmospheres and Hot Stars | Closing date: 2022-11-20

| The research group on stellar atmospheres and mass loss of hot stars led by Dr. Andreas Sander at the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut of the Zentrum für Astronomie at Heidelberg University (ARI/ZAH) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) to strengthen or complement our research activities at the conjunction of observation, theory and numerical astrophysics to uncover the life, fate, and wide-ranging impact of hot stars and their winds. | | ▸ more | The new postdoc will be responsible for establishing a framework towards a multi-dimensional treatment for Wolf-Rayet outflows. This research project is highly collaborative with a strong involvement of Prof. Jon Sundqvist's group at KU Leuven and aims to answer key questions about the mechanisms of launching and accelerating radiation-driven winds in non-LTE conditions. A research background in either numerical hydrodynamics, radiative transfer simulations, model atmospheres, or quantitative spectroscopy will be considered favourably.
An initial appointment will be made for two years with possible extensions being subject to available funding opportunities. The starting date is up for negotiation and can be as early as March, 1st 2023. The salary will be according to the German public service scale TV-L E13. A PhD is required to be hold by the time of appointment.
