Post-doctoral Research Fellow - The WEAVE-LOFAR Survey | Closing date: 2024-02-01 Contact: Dan Smith |
Applications are invited for a 36-month postdoctoral position to lead and publish original scientific investigations in the area of galaxy formation and evolution. This successful applicant will use data from the WEAVE-LOFAR survey, which aims to use the new WEAVE spectroscopic facility on the 4.2m William Herschel Telescope in La Palma to obtain >1 million optical spectra of 150MHz sources identified in data from the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS).
| ▸ more | You will also develop a leading role in ensuring that WEAVE-LOFAR achieves its wider scientific objectives, by monitoring observing progress and preparing observations. You will work with Associate Professor Dan Smith at the Centre for Astrophysics Research, and as a key member of the international WEAVE-LOFAR science team.
The post is one of 8 new STFC-funded postdoctoral positions awarded to CAR as a result of the STFC Astronomy Grants scheme (2023) and is available from 1 April 2024 and the successful candidate will ideally be in post as soon as possible, and no later than 1 October 2024.
Candidates should have completed all requirements for a PhD in astronomy by the position start date. Applications should be accompanied by PDF versions of a CV, a list of publications, contact details for two referees willing to write in support of your application, and a personal statement/cover letter (maximum two sides of A4 paper) explaining your motivation for applying, summarizing your research interests and what you would bring to the position (in reference to the Person Specification). The starting salary is expected to be GBP 37,099 - GBP 44,263 per annum depending on experience.
