A replacement position for 4 months (with a possibility for an extension of 12+ months) as a postdoc researcher (University Assistant) within the extragalactic group of Prof. Bodo Ziegler is offered by the University of Vienna with application deadline 4 Feb 2024 and start date 22 Mar 2024 (fix). | ▸ more | We are seeking a highly motivated senior astronomer with deep expertise in optical/NIR multi-object or 3D/IFU spectroscopy. The applicant should have strong experience with the investigation of chemical abundances, stellar populations, kinematics, and morphologies of distant (non-local) galaxies. The successful candidate will pursue projects exploring chemical enrichment, star formation history, and mass assembly.
Our group exploits mainly HST and ESO/VLT to quantitatively study distant galaxies with an emphasis on the environmental dependance in galaxy groups and clusters. We are a member of the ELT/MOSAIC and Wide-field Spectroscopic Telescope instrument consortia so that participation in the respective Science Working Groups is expected, too.
