Postdoctoral Position in Cosmology | Closing date: 2024-09-30 Contact: Maciej Bilicki |
The Computational Cosmology Group at the Center for Theoretical Physics PAS, Warsaw, is offering a postdoctoral position within the project PACIS: Precision and Accuracy for Cosmological Imaging Surveys, led by Prof. Maciej Bilicki.
The successful applicant will contribute to the research program of the Computational Cosmology Group at CTP PAS, and in particular to designing and applying optimized catalogs of galaxies for cosmological studies with deep wide-field imaging surveys, such as KiDS and LSST. | ▸ more | The PACIS project is conducted in collaboration with partners from the KiDS, 4MOST WAVES & 4HS, and LSST DESC teams, and the postdoctoral researcher will have the possibility to join these international consortia. Members of CCG are also taking part in other major experiments such as LOFAR, EMU or LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA, so possibilities exist to get involved in these as well.
We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. degree (awarded no earlier than in 2017*) in astronomy, physics or computational sciences, who has experience in handling astronomical data using machine learning or other computational techniques. Practical knowledge of methods to select galaxies and estimate their photometric redshifts from modern imaging surveys and/or of related cosmological inference will be additional assets.
The position is available for two years, and can start at any time agreed with the candidate. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2024, but the position will remain open until filled. The initial salary will amount to ~90k PLN (~21k EUR) per year with possible raise following satisfactory performance. There is also dedicated budget for travel and personal computing equipment.
