PhD fellow in observational astrochemistry at the Niels Bohr Institute | Closing date: 2019-02-28 Contact: Lars E. Kristensen |
The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in astrophysics commencing 01.09.2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. | ▸ more | Description of the scientific environment
The candidate will join the group of Lars Kristensen in the Section of Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences at the Niels Bohr Institute. The group focuses on understanding the chemistry and physics of star-forming regions, specifically by observing such regions at millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths with telescopes such as the Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA), and the SubMillimeter Array (SMA). These observations are coupled with radiative-transfer models to further understand and constrain the chemistry taking place in these regions.
Project description
The candidate will work on obtaining gas-phase molecular inventories of nearby and more distant star-forming regions as part of on-going surveys. The candidate will quantify the role the external environment plays in setting the chemistry. Experience with radiative-transfer modeling and/or analysis of far-infrared/sub-mm data will be an advantage.
Principal supervisor is Lars E. Kristensen, the Niels Bohr Institute, lars.kristensen @ nbi.ku.dk, Direct Phone: +45 35 33 32 99.
