The ERC Advanced Grant ISM-FLOW will attempt to make the first (3D) space motion map of the Local Interstellar Medium. The project will use a dedicated large observational campaign in the near-infrared at ESO (ESO Public Survey VISIONS) and ESA Gaia data and will cover topics on the formation of giant molecular clouds, star formation and young stellar populations (1-100 Myr), the role of feedback, and the formation and evolution of spiral arms and large Galactic gas structures, such as the Radcliffe Wave.

The ERC Advanced Grant ISM-FLOW will attempt to make the first (3D) space motion map of the Local Interstellar Medium. The project will use a dedicated large observational campaign in the near-infrared at ESO (ESO Public Survey VISIONS) and ESA Gaia data and will cover topics on the formation of giant molecular clouds, star formation and young stellar populations (1-100 Myr), the role of feedback, and the formation and evolution of spiral arms and large Galactic gas structures, such as the Radcliffe Wave. Several positions are available at the PhD and Post-Doc levels in 2022 to 2024. We are offering now a PhD position with experience (preferably) in astrometry, near-infrared imaging, and astrostatistics to join a young collaborative team at the University of Vienna. The Department of Astrophysics of the University of Vienna is a thriving astronomical research center in Central Europe, with young faculty investigating star and planet formation, extra-solar planets, galaxy formation and evolution, and cosmology. The department is involved in the instrumentation for the ESO ELT and several ESA missions and runs its own robotic 1.5m telescope located in the Sch�pfel mountain in Austria.
