PhD position in massive stars - ERC consolidator grant "ASSESS" | Closing date: 2018-11-15 Contact: Alceste Bonanos |
The Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens invites applications for 1 PhD position on identifying and characterizing evolved massive stars in nearby galaxies in the framework of the ERC consolidator grant titled "Episodic Mass Loss in Massive Stars: Key to Understanding the Explosive Early Universe" (ASSESS). | ▸ more | The aim of the project is to determine whether episodic mass loss is a dominant process in the evolution of the most massive stars. Applicants with previous experience in stellar astrophysics and in particular massive stars, stellar variability, and the analysis of spectroscopic data are particularly encouraged to apply. The duration of the position will be 3 years.
The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated and able to work within a diverse team. They will work under the supervision of the PI, Dr. A. Bonanos. A MSc in (astro)physics or a related field is required.
